Every 4 Years 16 Aug 07 @ 16:20

Every 4 years or so...I decide that I need to upgrade either the components in my computer or to build a new one. This year I decided on the latter of the two. I built a pretty decent machine, for under a grand. It's got power, space, but most importantly...

That was my attempt at conveying silence. This thing is whisper quiet. After I turned on my machine, the power light came on and I thought, "Crap. Something isn't working." Then my screen lit up with POST messages and I was very happy. For those of you who know what my last computer sounded like...this is a day and night comparison.

I still have my old machine which I am going to tweak into a nice little media center. I have a capture card, remote, and wireless gaming controller and a wireless network card for it so all I really need is a wireless keyboard/mouse combo.

Now that I've stopped talking about my new machine for a few moments, here are the specs that I'm now running:

Case: Cooler Master Elite 330
Power Supply: Enermax Noisetaker II 485W
Motherboard: MSI P6N SLI Platinum
CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo 2.4 GHz
Memory: G-Skill DDR2-800 2GB
Graphics: ASUS GeForce 7600 GS
Hard Drive: Seagate Barracuda 500GB
DVD Burner: LG 18x DVD +/- R

Only thing I'm missing is a nice screen...but that can wait for now.
