I was having a little chat with
Bryan yesterday about how web advertising has been getting a little crazy. Not only is it everywhere, it is annoying and it's only going to get worse. According to the IAB (Interactive Advertising Bureau), in the US alone, internet advertising in 2007 reached over $21 billion and $6 billion in the fourth quarter (

The thing that really amazes me is that click-through rates on ads has dropped even more than expected from the holiday season (
from 37% in Oct to .03% in Jan). There is always a surge around the holidays but the drop off is a little bigger than anticipated. Some people say this is because of adjustments Google has made to their AdSesnse ads and decreasing the clickable space. One thing I know: I'm getting sick of internet advertising. Just waiting for the days of simple, well-designed sites with minimal advertising to start but I'll grab a magazine and sit back, it's going to be a while.
